D.I.Y. LOG CABIN 2.0
Log cabins are an environmentally sound method of construction since the logs serve as structural support, insulation and external protection against weather. This mode of building can dramatically cut the consumption of factory made insulation, siding, imported drywall and numerous other industrials made with toxic byproducts.
So the next time you're clearing trees to construct a studio or lodge, remember that your construction will be stronger, better insulated and less wasteful with logs. Another structure to consider, aside from the log cabin/timber frame hybrid you see here, is a timber frame with sides insulated by mud covered hay bales, providing rock solid walls. This is basically an adobe structure with an a-frame.
For me to answer questions about your log construction, send me an an email describing your structure and the conditions of the land, hill grade, available trees & species, etc.
Typically most jobs this size can be started and finished in a single summer with adequate planning.
